Prosecutor general seeks regional prosecutor dismissal over Amber Gold scandal

Andrzej Seremet
Poland's Prosecutor General Andrzej Seremet on Monday called for dismissal of the head of the regional prosecutor in Gdansk over negligence with regard to the collapsed gold-trading investment company Amber Gold whose founder is charged with illegal activity and forgery.

According to a report presented by Seremet at a press conference the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) asked Gdansk prosecutors already in 2009 to investigate Amber Gold for potentially violating the law by offering banking services without holding a banking license.

Since then the prosecutor ignored numerous requests from KNF for the probe into Amber Gold case. Instead, she relied on information supplied by Amber Gold owner and never bothered to interview any of Amber Gold’s clients, and violated regulations by suspending the investigation.
