Obligatory treatment for pedophiles and rapists included in Polish law

Poland's government adopted an amendment to the Penal Code which aims at introducing mandatory pharmacological treatment of convicted pedophiles and rapists and murderers who have already served their sentence in prison, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reports.

The need for such an amendment arose as in the coming years a number of convicts will leave prisons on the basis of an amnesty back in late 1980's which mitigated death sentences to 25 years imprisonment, the daily wrote.

A court will be able to direct such an individual for obligatory treatment if a criminological assessment points to such a need.
