Rhinoceros to premiere at Dramatyczny Theater

Eugene Ionesco’s play “Rhinoceros”, based on a new translation by Piotr Kamiński and directed by Artur Tyszkiewicz, will premiere on the Holoubek Stage of the Dramatyczny Theater on November 15.

Tyszkiewicz interprets the Romanian-born avant-garde dramatist’s masterpiece as a tale about the mechanisms which turn humans into a herd, making them lose their individuality and shutting down creative thinking.

“For me this is a play about the power of voluntary giving up one’s own thinking and giving in the collective thinking while suspending one’s individuality”, Tyszkiewicz said.

The main character in the play, Berenger works for a large company. Unhappy with the job and daily routine he would like to live more and better. His aspirations are big while possibilities are limited. But when people in his town start turning into Rhinoceros Berenger decides to remain himself.

Cast includes Paweł Domagała (Berenger), Krzysztof Ogłoza, Sławomir Grzymkowski, Waldemar Barwiński, Andrzej Blumenfeld, Anna Szymańczyk and Magdalena Smalara.
