Poland could merge its airline industry into holding company - report
Poland's Treasury and transport Ministries are working on a concept aimed at a consolidation of air transport companies mulling creation of an airline holding which would combine assets including flag carrier LOT as a possible solution, Rzeczpospolita daily reported citing Treasury Minister Wlodzimierz Karpinski.

"The treasury ministry, in cooperation with the transport ministry, is working on the concept of concentrating air transport companies. An air holding is an option," Treasury Minister Wlodzimierz Karpinski was quoted as saying.

Back in October, the daily wrote about such a concept saying that holding composed of air carriers LOT and Eurolot, airports and technical services could be set up in June 2014. The value of such a holding is estimated at some EUR 2.5 billion, the daily wrote.

Merging air travel companies into one holding company would help offset losses at LOT. The holding could then be privatized, with the exception of its infrastructure assets.
