Jazz Era in Poznań
The Jazz Era festival, one of the biggest events of its kind in Poland, will be held Oct. 13-19 in the western city of Poznań, offering audiences a range of concerts in clubs and gala recitals featuring top acts.

The Jazz Era festival is the brainchild of Dionizy Piątkowski, a jazz critic and enthusiast who authored the Jazz Encyclopedia, the first publication of its kind in Poland. The festival was launched in 1998 at the Blue Note club in Poznań, which will be hosting the festival again this year. According to Piątkowski, Jazz Era has always strived to promote great music. “Through the years, we have held over 200 concerts featuring probably all of the jazz greats, from Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall and Wayne Shorter to Cassandra Wilson, Dionne Warwick and Marcus Miller,” says Piątkowski.

The star-studded program this year boasts names such as popular jazz vocalist Stacey Kent and guitarists John Abercrombie, Ralph Towner and David Gilmore, in addition to Carmen Souza from Cape Verde. Festival audiences will also hear Paula Morelenbaum, dubbed “the First Lady of contemporary bossa nova,” brilliant pianist Marc Copland, drum virtuoso Joey Barron, legendary sax player Paul McCandless, bass guitarist Reggie Washington and charismatic vocalist Vinx.
