Eclectic Panache

The newly-built patio of the Cosmopolitan apartment building on Twarda Street in Warsaw could become a favorite meeting place for Varsovians as well as tourists visiting the Polish capital.

This stylish residential building designed by world-class architect Helmut Jahn was built in mid-2014 right next to Grzybowski Square. The 44-floor Cosmopolitan building has a distinctive modern, glazed form that blends in with the surrounding historical space.

The patio, which was completed in October, combines world-class architecture, modern art and quality eateries that together form a new and eclectic urban space.

At the patio’s center stands a mobile installation by Israeli artist Eran Shakine. You and Me is a mobile sculpture eight meters tall, depicting a couple standing at opposite ends of a long beam. Facing each other, the man and the woman slowly move up and down as if they were on a giant seesaw, which—as the artist explains—is an expression of incessant variability in relations between two people. The sculpture’s full cycle of movement lasts eight hours.

The site is also home to Poland’s first restaurant opened by Benihana, a Japanese chain that owes its success to quality cuisine and the culinary showmanship that accompanies the cooking of dishes for guests. Knife juggling, flying ingredients and the table all in flames are some of the attractions the restaurant’s guests can expect. A few steps away, South American dishes are served at Ceviche Bar by Martin Gimenez Castro. This is the only restaurant in Poland where you can eat ceviche, a dish from Peru.

At La Fromagerie, guests can choose from more than 100 kinds of cheese purchased from small producers from all over Europe. A wide range of wine and champagne, including Poland’s biggest on-site collection of wine from Bordeaux, is offered by Wine Taste by Kamecki. Customers can choose wines from the store’s extensive list and also order a dream wine or unique vintage to be brought to Poland at their request.

Meanwhile, at the Odette Tea Room in the Cosmopolitan Twarda 4 building, delicious sweet things are served with quality teas from the Blanca Tea company. In addition to all the above there is City SAM, a café combined with a store, which offers healthy dishes made from produce from local suppliers.
