Voters have decided and Poland has a new government that differs from its predecessor in one key respect: power now rests completely in the hands of just one political grouping—the United Right. The formation’s undisputed leader is Jarosław Kaczyński, head of the Law and Justice (PiS) party. I believe now is the best time to let the new parliament and government know what we expect of them.

1. I would like the parliament and government to act in the interests of individuals and the nation as a whole as their overarching priority.

2. I would like the parliament and government to only accept responsibilities vested in them by the legal system. Nothing more and nothing less.

3. I would like the authorities to work to ensure security and to foster a sense of security for all people who live in Poland, whether they are a majority or minority.

4. I would like Polish people to be free and feel free as long as they obey the law.

5. I would like Polish people to be able to identify with what the state is doing, so that they feel that the state is working in their best interests, both in the short and in the long term.

6. I would like the state to trust Polish people just as much as Poles should trust the state.

7. I would like the state not to do anything to exclude anybody for whatever reason.

8. I would like the political forces in parliament not to be driven by the intention to defeat their opponents.

9. I would like members of the government and parliament to be guided by the interests of the country and not by that of their political parties.

10. I would like the authorities to be aware of the here and now and of the processes that determine how the world develops.

11. I would like the state to guarantee a free market economy, to support sustainable development and to help Poland play the role it deserves in international trade.
