PLN 310m for research to fight lifestyle diseases
The National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) has allocated PLN 310 million for 16 projects in the areas of: oncology, cardiology, neurology, and regenerative medicine in the first year of its Strategmed program.

The Strategmed Prevention and Treatment of Lifestyle Diseases is the first strategic research and development program prepared by the NCBR board based on the new rules introduced bythe National Research Program (NRP), a bill from 2011outlining a long-term plan for the innovation research in Poland.

"Lifestyle diseases are now one of the most important challenges for medicine. In order to develop the global potential of Polish scientists, we need to invest in the latest technologies in this area. The Strategmed program came in response to the fast-developing innovations in prevention, diagnostics and treatment of an ageing society," Science and Higher Education Minister Lena Kolarska-Bobinska said about the package.

The Strategmed program will close at the end of 2017. By that time, the NCBR plans to announce three research projects competitions worth PLN 800 million in total.
