Masłowska filmed by Jarzyna - famous writer-director duet to debut on TV
Grzegorz Jarzyna is going to adapt “No matter how hard we tried” by DorotaMasłowska for the small screen four years after the celebrated premiere of the play at one of Warsaw’s leading theaters TR Warszawa.

The television version will have its pre-release this year during the T-Mobile NoweHoryzonty Festival in the southwestern Polish city of Wrocław, July 24-Aug. 3.

The director of both the original and the TV adaptation Grzegorz Jarzyna, an award winning theatre director and playwright, holds the position of artistic director of TR Warszawa, one of the most important Polish stages of the last decade.

The drama’s author Dorota Maslowska debuted at the age of 19 with a scandalous novel “Snow White and Russian Red”for which she got some of the most prestigious literary awards in Poland, and still continues to divide the country’s literary critics.

„No matter how had we tried” tells a story of Polish society during the time of political and economic transformation of the early 1990s. It is filled with grotesque dialogues made of pop-cultural clichés, tabloid language of advertisements, and national stereotypes. In her text Masłowska paints a colorful picture of Polish society by pitting against each other different world-views, moral codes, and narrative styles.

Jarzyna puts the drama’s characters in a minimalistic, imaginary space not to lose the surreal character of the story. He understands the energy of the text and lets it shine on stage as a tragi-comic farce.
