NFZ calls for bigger healthcare premium

Piotr Czauderna
Poland's National Health Fund NFZ recommends increasing the monthly healthcare premium to 11% from the current 9% but the idea is opposed by the health and finance ministries, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes citing unofficial sources.
NFZ, backed in its efforts by the president Andrzej Duda's milieu, is pushing a scenario according to which the contribution would rise by 0.5 ppt a year to reach the 11% level in four years' time, with the financial burden shared by employers and employees.
Piotr Czauderna, the presidential healthcare aide, postulates additionally that the state budget participates in the cost of hiking the NFZ contribution, and argues that patients may support the increase as they are now more aware of the need to recapitalize Poland's healthcare system.
