NCBR invests in power units modernization
Maciej Chorowski
Poland's R&D authority NCBR wants to allocate up to PLN 200 million to upgrading 200 MW-class power units by end-November under an innovation-partnership program, NCBR director Maciej Chorowski told PAP.
"NCBR wants to finance search for a solution enabling further use of those units for at least another decade, maybe two decades," Chorowski said, pointing out that several dozen currently used 200 MW units require thorough modernization or shutdown.
Keeping that combined 10 GW of production capacities operational would give Poland time to decide on the final shape of its energy mix, the NCBR head argued.
Power company Tauron has already declared initial interest in the program. Its production arm Tauron Wytwarzanie has 10 200 MW-class power units.
