Sulechow is a small town in the western part of Poland. Every year a two days Festival of Fryderyk Chopin Music takes place. Event is under the Honorary Patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Voivodship Marshal of the Lubuskie Province, Mayor of Sulechow and the National Institute of Fryderyk Chopin.
During this year's edition guests had the pleasure to hear Jaroslaw Kostka Quartet with the project "Chopin Profanum". This is a new jazz arragment of Chopin's music. Performers say that their music is a tribute to a great composer whose work is a recorded improvisation.
The biggest star of the festival was Michal Urbaniak, a saxophonist, jazz violinist, composer and an arranger. He played with the stars such as Weather Report, Freddie Hubbard, Elvin Jones, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, George Benson and Billy Cobham in all of his career. In Sulechow he performed with Wojciech Karolak who is a world-famous jazz musician, pianist, composer, alto and tenor saxophonist, an arranger but in particular a virtuoso of Hammond organs that guests could hear during the festival.
Within the Festival of Fryderyk Chopin Music workshops for young pianists took place under the direction of Jaroslaw Kostka. Moreover guests could partake in concerts with young vocalists and pianists from Poland, Germany and England.
The festival’s mentor is Jan Popis who is an expert of Fryderyk Chopin and his music.
