My Brilliant Friend in Wroc³aw Contemporary Theatre

My Brilliant Friend is the title of the first novel of a 4-part series The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante. It is the literary phenomenon of the last years, which started “Ferrante fever”among the readers.
The performance based on the motifs of tetralogy directed by Weronika Szczawińska is a challenge to the theater, an attempt to reconcile epic scale and intimacy. It is a story about the maturing and shaping of man’s personality and an identity.
The change of optics proposed by Ferrante allows us to look at classical themes of European art - such as maturation, sex, artist formation, shaping social consciousness. It happens from a radically feminine perspective, placing the experience of women in the center and also experience of what has been overlooked and excluded until now.
The performance includes a story about an embarrassed society that can finally afford a heroine instead of a hero. However, this heroine has to face prejudices and sexism. Nevertheless, she must constantly move forward, believing that independence is possible.
The show premieres on 17 February.
