Supreme Court's interregnum
Malgorzata Gersdorf
Signals remain mixed as to who is the Chief Justice of Poland's Supreme Court.
Justice Jozef Iwulski denies he is the current Chief Justice despite being appointed by President Andrzej Duda. Iwulski claims he is filling in as deputy during the vacation of to-date current Chief Justice Malgozata Gersdorf, sent by Duda to mandatory early retirement under the terms of the recent judicial reform legislation.
Spokespersons for the Court confirm that Gersdorf is on vacation to July 19th, a situation that would not be possible if Gersdorf were retired, they note.
