Expert on inflation

Poland might face a CPI increase to the central bank's target or slightly above that level in 2019, an inevitable outcome of growing wage pressure and tightening margins, BZ WBK chief economist Piotr Bielski told the daily Parkiet in an interview.
Fundamental inflation pressure will rise as base inflation is expected to exceed 1.0% to end-2018 and hit 2.5% in 2019, he added.
Polish MPC will abstain from action even so, an attitude that may further undermine the attractiveness of the zloty in the eyes of investors and doom the currency to oscillating in the EUR/PLN 4.20-4.30 range in the coming quarters and possibly also next year, Bielski said. PLN will still be protected in case of a major sell-off of EM markets thanks to the good condition of the domestic economy, he remarked.
