Senate rejects Duda's proposal

President Andrzej Duda's proposal to organize a referendum on changes to the country's constitution was rejected by the Senate, with 30 votes against, 10 in favour and 52 abstentions, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna wrote.
Senators criticized the proposed referendum date of November 10-11, conflicting with the 100th anniversary of Poland's sovereignty restoration. The ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) additionally feared a political blow resulting from the likely low turnout. The questions proposed by President were also considered ambiguous.
