Budget issue

The Polish government remains determined to lower its general government deficit to 1.5% of GDP in 2019 to create a buffer in the event of a sudden economic slowdown, but is facing pressure from ministries to increase budgetary spending in 2019 on account of the over PLN 9 billion budget surplus enjoyed after May, according to daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
Budgetary expenses could also be inflated by ruling party Law and Justice (PiS)'s new welfare projects aimed at increasing its popularity ahead of the upcoming local elections.
