Buddha Man
David Ravin will present his DJ set at Iguana Lounge (Jan. 30) and NoBo (Jan. 31), promoting his recent album Siddhartha: Spirit of Buddha Bar Vol. 2.
A composer and DJ, Ravin was born in Mauritius and grew up in Rajasan. As a teenager he worked for a Paris record label and, fascinated by the local club scene, he quickly became part of that culture. His album Buddha Bar III went double gold. His favorite saying is Nietzsche's "Life without music would be a great mistake."
The second album from the Siddhartha series, released Nov. 3, 2003, was another successful lounge compilation. Ravin works with various musicians, who also contributed to his latest release, the two-CD Awakening and Euphoria. He managed to get artists from a wide musical spectrum involved in the album, such as Baul dimension, Bliss, Manzai Republic, Cirque du Soleil and Gaudi. The album features music from India, harmoniously blended with modern sounds and electronica. Ravin softens the music with Indian mantras and acoustic instruments in the background.
The name of the series comes from the historical figure of Buddha ¦akyamuni who lived in the late 6th and early 5th century BC.
Tickets at zl.50 are available from club box offices.

Putting a Spin On I
This is what popular Polish DJs say about David Ravin's music and his album entitled Siddhartha, Spirit of Buddha Bar:
DJ Novika states, "I find this compilation light and pleasant to the ear. It creates a positive atmosphere. It is a 'Sunday' album."
DJ Lipsticks shares the opinion, adding: "Such mellow chill-outing lets me enter positive vibrations."
DJ Prorock says that "it is a calmer version of club music. This is due to up beats, although, on the other hand, the music does involve some sort of energy which increases towards the end of the album."
Some DJs, however, are not fond of such type of club music. "For me personally this music is too slow and calm," says DJ Moondeck. "I don't think it is proper for a club, perhaps only for listening at home when having dinner. And I go to a club to dance and not to relax and calm my nerves."
