The ruling party PO's draft amendment to the public media act, including the removal of incumbent National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) members, caused a heated debate in the lower house of Parliament last Wednesday.

While the social conservative opposition PiS accused PO of trying to seize control of the public media, junior coalition partner PSL and left-wing opposition SLD called for minor changes of the draft but did not oppose a reshuffle of the KRRiT board.

The most important change proposal concerns restoring the list of tasks to be fulfilled by public TV and radio as part of their mission. The disputed piece of legislation returned to a lower house commission.
