Lower House Speaker Grzegorz Schetyna
Tax hikes suggested by PM's chief advisor Michal Boni are the last resort and should be preceded by a broader discussion, lower house Speaker Grzegorz Schetyna said yesterday.
"These are not specific proposals," Schetyna said on radio Zet, Tuesday morning. "Certainly, this is a test of public opinion and a beginning of a broader debate, but not only a debate in the quiet of ministerial offices. I'm going to say that this is absolutely the last resort."
Schetyna stressed that Boni does not speak for the ruling party Civic Platform (PO), but describes ideas originating in the PM's chancellery.
"This voice only starts a discussion," Schetyna said. "PO will also take up the discussion."
PM chief advisor Michal Boni had suggested that social security premiums could be hiked to trim the deficit.
