Spanish law firm Garrigues, which has offices around the world, including Poland, and which is the largest law firm on the Iberian Peninsula, is opening another office—this time in Brazil.

To jump-start its business in that country, Garrigues will team up with Brazilian law firm Schmidt, Valois, Miranda, Ferreira & Angel – Advogados (SVMFA).

The decision is part of Garrigues’s strategy to expand and strengthen its position in Latin America, the firm’s executives said. Brazil, which is now one of the world’s fastest growing economies, offers excellent development prospects to Garrigues, according to Fernando Vives and Ricardo Gomez, managing partners at the law firm.

Through its partnership with SVMFA, Garrigues expects to gain new business opportunities, especially by representing Iberian companies on the Brazilian market.

SVMFA is a leading Brazilian law firm. It specializes in legal advice in areas such as energy, infrastructure, natural energy sources, mergers and acquisitions, and infrastructure. This range of business corresponds with that of Garrigues.

Garrigues currently has offices in Brussels, New York, London, Casablanca, Shanghai, Lisbon, Puerto Rico, and Bucharest. Since 2007 the law firm has also had an office in Warsaw. The Polish subsidiary of Garrigues deals with issues such as real estate, labor law, competition and consumer law, infrastructure and EU funds, renewable energy, investment project funding, public-private partnerships, and debt restructuring.
