This year’s Warsaw Summer Jazz Days will be held July 1-4. The festival was first held in 1992 as an artistic counterpoise to Jazz Jamboree.
Mariusz Adamiak, who came up with the idea for Warsaw Summer Jazz Days and is its chief organizer, says that the main aim is to promote contemporary jazz “regardless of genre or nationality and to present what is most recent and creative in contemporary jazz.”
The opening concert for this year’s festival will feature the Portico Quartet, Mostly Other People Do the Killing and the Pharoah Sanders Quartet. Pat Metheny, Kurt Elling and David Gilmore are among the big names that will be appearing.
Warsaw Summer Jazz Days will include two open concerts at Rydza-Śmigłego Park. Ambient Night—10 dB will be held July 3 at midnight and, on July 4 at 1 p.m., Paul Zauner’s Blue Brass featuring Donald Smith will be sharing the stage with Italy’s SpraChsPiel Quintet and Slovakia’s David Hodek Band.
