Info

The highly diversified spiritual life of Europeans is the subject of Gods—User’s Guide, a new exhibition at the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw.

Globalization and tides of immigrants have turned European cities into melting pots of different religions, with a total of 158 different denominations and religious organizations registered in Poland alone.

Rather than taking a historical or theological approach to religion, the exhibition looks at individual denominations from the angle of religious practices. Visitors to the exhibition can find out how universal religious questions while getting an insight into diverse religious practices. The exhibition is divided into several sections, including those entitled Points of Reference, Gods Depicted, The Beyond, Passages, Cycles, Cults, Sites, the Body, Mediators, and Conflicts and Coexistence.

The exhibition has been given a modern look with large panels comprising text, photographs, video and sound clips along with items from the museum collection. Visitors can also see a video recording of a theater play that illustrates the Conflicts and Coexistence section.
