Info

Warsaw’s Studio Theater is staging “Marriage” a play by the 19th century Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, directed by another Russian Iwan Wyrypajew - one of the most acclaimed theater playwright and director of the last decade.

This is the first time that Wyrypajew is directing a play that is not his own. “Marriage”, which was first published in 1842, is a story of a difficult choice for a young woman Agafya Tikhonovna who wants to find a suitable husband. One day a matchmaker and several suitors arrive at her place, exchange insults and then in turn each propose to her.

The play in which the author unveils a gallery of satirical grotesques stands as a testament to Gogol's comic flair and genius in creating memorable characters. Each suitor has his own motives for marrying, and none has much to do with Agafya. Which suitor will winningly woo her hand and dowry?

The play features such oustanding Polish actors as Karolina Gruszka, Maria Kania, Monika Pikuła, Marcin Bosak, Jakub Kamieński, Łukasz Lewandowski, Modest Ruciński, Julia Sobiesiak, Radosław Walenda, Mirosław Zbrojewicz and Franciszek Przybylski.
