Exports of the Polish vodka Wyborowa to China have increased by almost 1,000 percent in less than two years.
In late June, almost 400 employees of Pernod Ricard China visited Poland, invited by the company's Polish firm, Wyborowa SA (both companies are owned by Pernod Ricard, the world's leading alcohol producer). "This is without a doubt the largest Chinese 'raid' on Poland in history; never have there been so many visitors from China in our country at the same time," said Andrzej Szumowski, vice-president of Wyborowa's board. The reason for the unusual trip was Wódka Wyborowa, the best-known Polish brand in China. The goal of the visit was to make the Chinese friends of Wyborowa vodka familiar with Polish vodka traditions and with the fact that Poland is the world's cradle of vodka.
Wyborowa reports spectacular sales on the Chinese market. "Exports have grown by as much as 967 percent over the last two years," Szumowski said. After just two years of exports, the Chinese market has become the fifth largest market for Wyborowa. According to forecasts, in a few years the Chinese may become the largest buyer of this Poznań-produced vodka. Today, Wyborowa ranks third among vodka brands sold in China, with 12.5-percent of the market. Wyborowa is becoming the ambassador of everything Polish to the Chinese. It is also helping reduce the negative trade balance with China.
