Gov't Prepares for Shanghai Expo

28 May 2008

The Polish government has approved an official plan to prepare the country for the Expo 2010 world fair to be held in Shanghai, China. The plan is the outcome of consultations with social partners and research on the Chinese market coordinated by the Office of the General Commissioner of the Polish Section at the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ).

The government plan defines measures to be taken to create an image of Poland as a country undergoing positive change. The objective of the Polish exhibition at Expo 2010 will be to show Poland as a place with a large potential, a country with a young and modern society, and a European Union member enjoying rapid growth. Poland's presence at the Expo in Shanghai is supposed to contribute to an increase in Chinese direct investment in Poland and foster the development of economic and cultural links between the two nations. It is also expected to boost tourist traffic between Poland and China.

The government plan has been prepared on the basis of research conducted by experts on the Chinese market. Additionally, consultations were held with researchers, artists and businesspeople. Taking part in these consultations were also representatives of other ministries and public institutions, including the Polish Enterprise Development Agency, Polish Tourist Organization, and Confederation of Polish Employers.

Expo 2010 will be held in Shanghai from May 1 to Oct. 31. Its theme is Better City - Better Life. In November 2006, the Polish government decided that Poland would take part in the exhibition.
