LA Times Recommends Warsaw
An article in The Los Angeles Times has listed Warsaw among the top 10 must-see spots around the globe in 2009. Warsaw was described as a friendly, cheap, interesting and not overly crowded city with many luxurious hotels and great cuisine. One of the main reasons given to visit Warsaw is the Year of Chopin that will be celebrated in 2010. However, the paper recommends visiting Warsaw "before throngs of Chopin lovers get there in 2010.".

"Travelers drawn to newly accessible and relatively budget-priced Eastern European cities tend to give Warsaw the cold shoulder, chiefly because it's a modern metropolis that had to struggle back to life after near-total destruction by the Germans in World War II," the article says. But it points out that Warsaw's Old Town "was painstakingly restored post-war and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a 15th century town hall, market square, royal castle and cathedral."

WDA at Confex Fair in London
The Warsaw Destination Alliance took part at the International Confex Fair in London Feb. 24 to 26. Confex is the most important tourist business fair in Britain. The WDA shared a stand with the Warsaw Convention Bureau. WDA and WCB strategy is to closely cooperate in promoting Warsaw abroad this year. During the Confex Fair the Warsaw stand had three big inquiries for international congresses in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The number of visitors to the Confex fair was up 5 percent from the previous year. Total attendance was 15,030.

WordSmith Promotion in WDA
WordSmith Promotion (www.wordsmithpromotion.com) is a Warsaw-based company that helps businesses to promote themselves in English. WordSmith guarantees high-quality English and the company employs native English speakers. This is in contrast to many promotional companies, which use English-speaking Poles to translate and write in English-that often means that the language they come up with is full of grammatical and spelling errors, which foreigners find frustrating.

The range of services offered by WordSmith Promotion includes translating, correcting and rewriting existing materials, creating websites, designing adverts and producing written materials for clients.

Ukraine Warms Up for Euro 2012
Special tourist activity programs have been drawn up by the Ukrainian state tourism organization for the Euro 2012 soccer championships. Sixty new tourists routes in six cities have been completed. Four of those cities will host championship matches. New routes include national and cultural heritage sites. There are also plans to relaunch a train service connecting Lviv and Cracow and to simplify border checks for visiting fans.

Ukraine wants to attract as many fans as possible. The goal is to persuade them to stay 9-10 days in the same city and watch all the matches.

WDA City Fee Collection
In January WDA member hotels collected a total of zl.48,902 from voluntary levies from hotel guests.
