A special concert starring Nigel Kennedy will take place at the Concert Hall of the National Philharmonic March 24, 7 p.m. The British violin virtuoso will perform with the Polish Chamber Orchestra. The program includes compositions by Antonio Vivaldi: Summer and Winter from The Four Seasons, as well as lesser known pieces by the composer such as Concerto in B-major for violin and oboe RV 548 and four Concertos for two Violins in A-major, C-major and A-minor with Jakub Haufa as second soloist. Haufa is currently the first concertmaster and soloist of the Polish Chamber Orchestra. The Warsaw concert will begin a series of Kennedy and Polish Chamber Orchestra concerts in Germany and Britain titled Vivaldi Experience.
Kennedy was born in 1959. He is regarded as one of the best and most eccentric contemporary violin virtuosos. As a young boy he was a pupil of Yehudi Menuhin. He also studied at the famous New York Julliard School of Music under Dorothy deLay. Kennedy debuted in 1977 at London's Royal Festival Hall with a violin concerto by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy with Ricca Muti conducting. Kennedy's interpretation of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi became the best-selling instrumental classical music record ever.
Tickets to the concert, from zl.40-100 available from the National Philharmonic box office, tel. 551-71-31. National Philharmonic, 5 Jasna St.
