Churrasco do Landa
Churrasco do Landa

By Magda Kuszewska
4 November 2004

Churrasco do landa is the first churrascaria in Poland and the second Brazilian restaurant in Warsaw. The Brazilian word churrasco describes a special method of meat preparation. On Próżna Street, real Brazilian gauchos in original costumes and hats serve meat on sabers straight from the ovens. For zl.39.90 - the price of a churrasco feast - guests can enjoy a buffet featuring 12 - 14 meat dishes: beef, pork, mutton and poultry. Spices and marinades are central to the preparation process. Meat dishes are served with a variety of salads and other sides, such as fejoada - a traditional dish made with black beans. To whet your appetite, try Caipirinha (zl.14) - a both sweet and dry drink made of Brazilian cachaca liquor and lime. Finish your meal with a pineapple from the oven for good digestion.
If you do not have time for a churrasco - or banquet - order a quick lunch. Churrasco do landa always serves fresh oysters. The menu also features salmon in dill with cottage cheese (zl.20), salmon steak (zl.39) and halibut moqueca de peixe (zl.38). The restaurant's owner, Tadeusz Landa, and the manager, Brazilian Andre Mafra claim the restaurant can satisfy any customer. "I have enjoyed interacting with Latin American culture," Landa said. "In Brazil, people are happy with everything. They should teach us how to deal with hardships: with songs, music, samba, soccer and culture." The restaurant imports coffee and cane sugar from Brazil. Desserts, based mainly on corn and condensed milk, are made according to Brazilian recipes. "The interior reflects the atmosphere of a Brazilian veranda," Mafra said.
Every evening, Churrasco do landa presents live guitar music with a Latin flavor, of course. The bar is dominated by drinks characteristic of South America, but also serves typical European specialties. The restaurant can hold up to 120 guests and also has a private room decorated - quite appropriately for Ronaldo's home country - with soccer - related art.
